The mixture was added with water (20 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (3 X 20 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous Na2504, filtered, concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by chromatography column on silica gel with eluting with petroleum ether / EtOAc 50/1 to afford crude (S)-4-benzyl 1- tert-butyl 2-isopropylpiperazine-1,4-dicarboxylate (1.8 g, 90%) as a colorless oil, which was used for the next step directly without further purification.
