The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 20 hours and then the volatiles were removed under reduced pressure. The resulting mixture was then extracted with diethyl ether (100 mL). The aqueous layer was treated with 3.0 M HC1 until it was slightly acidic (pH = 4) and then extracted with ethyl acetate (150 mL). The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over anhy.
