The reaction was cooled to 0C and quenched by sequential addition of water (0.75 ml), sodium hydroxide (2N, 0.75 ml) and then water (1.5 ml). The resulting slurry was filtered and concentrated in vacuo and the residue purified by chromatography using DCM to 20% 7N ammonia in methanol in DCM to [(2S)-L-METHYLPIPERAZIN-2-YL] METIZANOL as a white solid (454 mg, 53%) ; NMR spectrum (DMSO-d6) 1. 83 (m, 1H), 1. 98 (dt, 1H), 2.14 (s, 3H), 2.31 (dd, 1H), 2.56 (m, 2H), 2. 68 (m, 1H), 2. 84 (dd, 1H), 3.23 (dd, 1H), 3.52 (dd, 1H).
